Parent Chat

The primary undertaking of the Albany Junior High School Parent Chat (AJHSPC) is to provide a context for parents to discuss issues concerning the school as they arise with Teacher representatives, Senior Management and a Board of Trustees representative. It will provide a forum for consultation and parent feedback through discussion that will help to guide the school in their decision making processes

All parents or caregivers are members of the AJHSPC and are welcome to attend the meetings, and we'd love to see you there, whether you decide to attend just one meeting or all of them. Come and feel connected with the school and experience first hand what a wonderful group of students and teachers we have here at AJHS.

At every meeting our Principal and a member of the Board of Trustees give a brief report on current events, and various staff or students will keep parents updated with what has been going on around the school. In the past presentations have been made by the Enviro Group (the group responsible for all the plantings and landscaping around the school) and the Small Animals Group.

We also encourage parents to email Parent Chat (email address below) if they have any requests for more information on any courses offered by the school. For example the IT department gave an overview of IT teaching and a demonstration on how to use and access the web portal system for individual student information.

Some of the projects/resources funded by the Parent Chat are:

  • two truck and trailer loads of mulch to help nourish and protect all the trees planted around the school
  • cages and animals for the Small Animals group
  • two video cameras for Year 7 and 8 students to use for class projects
  • a defibrillator for school and local community use
  • musical Instruments

Parent Chat also provides a place for parents to suggest improvements, present new ideas or voice any wider educational concerns that they may have. From time-to-time feedback is sought from the forum for proposed changes within the school such as the school reporting system, timetable changes and better ways to improve school donation payments.

The meetings are usually held at 6.30pm on a selected Tuesday during term time, although this may vary. The dates of the meetings will be posted on the website.
