At AJHS we acknowledge the importance to the emerging adolescent of an active, healthy and balanced lifestyle with a plethora of opportunities for participation, competition and success. Therefore sport is a key area of focus for our school, and we enjoy significant participation rates from students with over 70% of students being involved in organised school sport.
We endeavour to provide as many sporting opportunities as there are students wishing to participate. Whilst catering for the more traditional sports we look to provide the widest variety of activities possible, from zone days to team competition sport. We also aim to provide sports at every level of competition so that all students can participate, from top level competitive teams and individuals to teams for the novice in most codes.
Considerable resources in terms of money and time go into making AJHS a competitive force on the sports fields and we are very proud of our students’ achievements to date, whereby we currently have students competing at local, regional, national and international levels.
We are developing our links with the local clubs and sporting organisations, particularly Sport North Harbour to ensure that we offer the best service possible to students and their families, and as a relatively new school are all too well aware that there is plenty of room for refinement and improvement in what we are doing and offering in the sporting field.
We expect our students to maintain the highest standards of discipline and sportsmanship, both on and off the field while striving to achieve their best. They are encouraged and supported to ensure that they are able to meet their commitments and obligations to their coaches, managers and team mates, turning up regularly to practices and games.
We are always looking to provide new and different opportunities on top of an already full programme, an example being the recent coaching sessions held at the school by the – premiere English soccer club the Bolton Wanderers.
Our vision for sport requires a substantial commitment from a huge number of volunteers, including staff, parents and students and I would take this opportunity to thank all those involved in AJHS sport who make this the success that it undoubtedly is, with a special thanks to Jayne Mayerhofler our sports coordinator.
Primarily we want our students to be involved, active and enjoy their sport at all levels.
