SCHOOL BUSES 2010
There has been a bit of confusion regarding buses this term, so I’d like to clarify the situation as it currently stands. The contract between the Ministry of Education and Party Bus has been cancelled. This contract has temporarily been awarded to The New Zealand Bus Co. which operates North Star buses. They will provide the following routes; 1687, 1601 and 1511. They are in the process of working out there timetables and routes. The out of zone 1222 bus will still be running operated by Party Bus. The Richies buses; 060, 061and the 116 will continue to operate as normal. Should you have any queries please start by contacting the bus companies directly if they can’t answer you questions then contact Clive Stephenson here at school. The bus company contact numbers are:
North Star 444 4408
Party Bus 417 0030
Cars
Parents and cars still are a concern for the school and we are receiving complaints from the public and businesses.
- Some Parents are still using the front of the school to pick up students. Because this road is not designed as a pick up area parents are doing U turns on the road. This is causing congestion on Appleby road and at times delaying our Buses by up to 10 minutes in getting out on to the Albany Highway as well as the dangers. Parents using Appleby road are also parking in the car park of the Child care over the road from the school. This and their actions are putting the preschoolers in danger.
- We are getting complaints from English Oak drive about the speed at which cars are driving down the road. We suggested to the people concerned that these complaints should be handed over to the police. The school staff on duty have commented on some parents parking illegally or turning at the school entrance. This is hindering other parents who are using the school properly.
- Parents using the back of the school are reminded that they should be using the pick up/ drop off zone on the southern side of the tennis court. This area is patrolled by staff to ensure that all students are safe. The area on the western side of the tennis courts is not patrolled by staff and is designated for short term parking. We cannot be held responsible for issues that arise in this area. A staff member is monitoring the flow of traffic as parents enter the school. The only exit from the back of the school during school time is Oakway drive.
Buses
Greenhithe 116
This service is still very full. Every afternoon we fill the two buses to their legal loading and then request a backup bus. We have had to do this every day except for the week of year 7 camp.
Unsworth Height 060
A huge growth in numbers has resulted in a full bus this year. The bus is within the legal loading and we are monitoring the situation.
Albany Heights 061
Numbers are steady on this service but there are still empty seats. At this stage the numbers should guarantee the service for 2008 but this will be confirmed by ARTA in July. Ritchies have looked at changing the bus currently doing the service as it is backed on to a Greenhithe run. This means some mornings our service is late due to the changes on that road..
Paremoremo/Wake Road & Coaetville
The ministry have not suggested only changes for term 2. Bus numbers are below the legal loading.
Dairy Flat 045 (048 am term 2 045 pm term 2)
We have notification from ARTA that this service will change in term 2. Students must catch the 048 service in the morning. In the afternoon they must catch the 045 service from 370 Rosedale Road at 3:45. Please check www.maxx.co.nz for details. Unfortunately the PM service still does not come to our school but it is a little closer.
Greenhithe Bus
New Times (Bus will leave Taihinu Road at 7:45 rather than 8:00)
As from Wednesday the 28th of February the Greenhithe Bus will leave 15 minutes earlier.
Normally we would endeavour to give you a weeks warning of such a change but because the bus is consistently so late, we have bought the time frame forward.
Parents will need to be flexible with times as if the bus leaves Tauhinu Road at 7:45 rather than 8:00 it may be 20 or 30 minutes quicker to stops further down the road.
If you have any other questions re times please contact Ritchies (Swanson) ph 623 6146)
As well as this notice students were informed of this by runner on Friday. It was in today’s notices and will be in tomorrow’s notices. This notice will also be published on “Albany On Line”.
Number of Buses
Currently ARTA have allocated two buses to this run(pm) and the buses were overcrowded. From Wednesday afternoon the staff on duty (pm) started filling the buses to their legal capacity and then releasing the buses. On Wednesday there were 29 students left over and on Thursday there were six. In both cases we asked Ritchies to send a third bus. Hopefully in due course we will have a third bus of right.
In the morning the bus company maintains there is still spare capacity. We will monitor this and take action as required.
Student Behaviour
A few parents have been in contact with me about the behaviour of a small number of students on the buses and how they treat their peers. Once the times and overcrowding issues have settled down we will focus on this group if required.
As a first step it would be good if all parents whose students use the bus could talk to their children about the behaviour expected on the bus. If you find out there is an issue that needs to be addressed, some parents are addressing it by the various social networks that already exist in the community. The school is however willing and ready to deal with these issues when informed of specific incidents and the names of those involved.
Students who are mistreating others on the bus as a rough guide are given one warning and on the second occurrence we will seriously look at removing the student from the bus.
Thank you to all parents who have been in communication with me over various issues.

If you have any enquiries about these runs then you should contact
- Party Bus Route (1687) if you are on the Paremoremo, Mahoenui Valley Road, Sunnyside Bus. (ph 09 417 0030)
- Bayes (1511) if you are on the Glenmore road, Coatesville Bus (ph 09 377 5576)
Note: it is my understanding that this bus will start collecting students after Ridge Road (times should be similar to 2006)
It is anticipated that the buses will have capacity to take ineligible students on the buses in 2007 but the cost of this service will have to be negotiated with the company concerned.
Please allow 10 minutes either side of a given time on the first day as with a new route and unknown numbers of students at each stop can delayed the bus.
I would like to acknowledge the work of the Ministry Agents in giving us these buses on time despite lack of information from other providers till today (February 5th).
All students wishing to use these buses will need to meet me in the PAC period 2 on Wednesday.
