Tournament of Minds Success

The Tournament of Minds competition 2020 did go ahead this year albeit in a very modified online version and the Auckland teams faced an extra challenge in the form of Lockdown #2.
Despite this two AJHS teams rose to the challenge and managed to submit two high quality solutions to their respective challenges.  One team of Y7 boys gained a Distinction in their category which was an outstanding result and placed them amongst the best of the teams from across New Zealand.
The team consisted of:  Owen Yan, Jack Le Noel, Oliver Jarvis, Zac Simmons, Rahul Gupta, Anshu Muraharishetti and Liam Mayne.
We congratulate them on their success!

Two students at AJHS – Natalie Stillwell and Zoe Clements – have decided to shave there heads for cancer. They are shaving there hair off to support cancer patients on the 5th of December. They want to help find more effective treatments to save lives and make sure people with cancer get the support they need to get through. Did you know that seven people will discover they have blood cancer today? That’s a scary statistic.
So, we need your help!
Please sponsor Zoe and Natalie for this great cause. It’s simple, fast and totally secure. Just go to and donate your chosen amount then Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand will email you a receipt.
Thank you to GDR Ltd for sponsoring Natalie and Zoe, go to or contact them at 0800 30 70 50

Year 7 & Year 8 Athletics Day

The Year 7 & 8 Athletics Day was a huge success with many students representing their whanaus proudly. Congratulations to all the participants for helping to make it such a fun day. Well done to Ruru who placed first overall, followed by Tui.

Trampoline Park

Year 10 Sports Science and Academy students attended a trip to Jump Trampoline Park. This is part of their risk assessment and event management unit. It was lots of fun and a great opportunity for students to show off their flips and tricks!

Diving update

On Monday October 26th the AJHS diving team competed at the New Zealand Secondary School competition. This was held at Westwave Pool in Henderson. This year new schools competed in this competition. With this increase in schools across New Zealand there was an overall Auckland team title along with a new National title. Seven divers from Albany Junior and two from Albany Senior competed on Monday. With an extra fifty points to Westlake, Albany had won it’s 9th Auckland title in a row and now the first National title.

Previous to this competition from Friday 23rd October to Sunday 25th was New Zealand Diving Nationals. With multiple overseas teams being chosen from the results of this competition it was the largest competition of the year.  I competed all age group boards  (platform and  1m and 3m springboard) as well as 3m springboard mixed synchro and junior elite platform. I placed third in all events apart from junior elite platform which I placed second in. In this event I had to compete as a guest as it was the level above age group which on the other two boards I hadn’t got all the dives for to compete normally.

Inspiring the Future

Studies show that New Zealand students have narrow ideas about their future and often have stereotypical ideas about who can do different jobs.

You can help by showing them what careers are out there.
