Last Friday the mobile fossil collection from Auckland Museum visited AJHS, along with a staff member to explain the science behind paleontology.

Year 9 students were able to sign up to attend one of three sessions. This experience aims to enhance the ‘Earth Science’ science unit of work that students will be starting this term.

Students were able to get hands-on time with both replica artifacts and real New Zealand fossils that have been excavated as recently as 2023.

Highlight exhibits included: a Tyrannosaurus rex skull and claws ; Velociraptor skull, Archaeopteryx fossil (early feathered dinosaur); Sabre toothed cat fangs and a Dodo skull.
