Gingerbread House creations are one of the most highly anticipated traditions for AJHS Food Technology students. Working in small groups, students engage in research, make prototypes, create blueprints and construct buildings that showcase their planned theme and design. From traditional style gingerbread houses, to beachside surf retreats, campsites, Shrek’s swamp, and Minecraft, it was inspiring to see students engaged in their learning and thinking creatively.
Within a fast paced one-hour time limit, students needed to work quickly to accomplish the building challenge. The project provided an opportunity for students to grow their teamwork skills, develop problem solving strategies and ultimately have fun, all while following through the technological design process. Well done to the students for aspiring to achieve success and for showing perseverance and resilience in overcoming challenges.
Mere Kirihimete to all our AJHS Whanau from the Food Technology students of AJHS. May our creations inspire you to rise to the challenge to construct your own gingerbread houses with your family or friends. It’s a perfect chance to spend quality time together and to share laughter as perhaps the walls cave in, or the roof slides off the support structures. Not to mention the fun of all the decorating, sharing sweet treats and creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
