This term saw a highly successful launch of our School Values and Expectations. Our whānau classes reviewed our values of kia pono (Integrity), kia māia (respect), and kia manaaki (respect). As you can see from the photos, we have a fantastic positive buzz in and around the school. Please ask your child to explain what each of these values looks like in a classroom.
We will be recognising those demonstrating our school values through KAMAR stars, raffle tickets, silver certificates and contact home.
You can now see a student’s stars under the recognition tab on your school portal. One star is worth one credit. This is a great conversation starter to help learn more about your child’s teachers, learning and achievements. Here is an example of how this appears on the portal. To get to this screen you will need to click “Your learning”, then “Recognitions”. When you click on the blue bar you will be able to see which subject area and which week it was awarded in. This person depicted below has received two stars, both from Science (SCIE) during week 3.
Now that we have a system of acknowledgment in place, staff are busy consulting and formatting an updated behaviour response system that aligns with our expectations and values. This will be published to caregivers and students later on in the year.
A team of amazing student ambassadors is being established for 2025. If your child is interested in joining our team, we meet every Friday lunchtime in M12. Our student ambassadors are involved with:
-
event and resource planning
-
running fun activities for students
-
hosting celebrations
-
planning and running assembly segments
-
being a voice for the students at AJHS.
It is a great opportunity to learn new skills and meet some like minded people.
