This week our school was incredibly fortunate to host Dr. Kira Bacal; emergency doctor, (current parent of the school) and ex-NASA employee!

Dr Bacal spoke to groups of Year 9 /10 Human Biology students about her work as a medical doctor at NASA.

We were amazed and fascinated to learn about the effects that the hostile world beyond our atmosphere has on the human body. Medical care has to deal with complex combinations such low and high gravitational forces; nuclear radiation; low air pressure and the mental stress of living in confined conditions for long periods of time.

Most of the students decided that even though they might enjoy a career in medicine, space travel was not something they would like to experience!

A huge thank you to Dr Bacal for bringing her unique knowledge and experience to our kura.
