Asst Makomako Whanau Leader
Science teacher / Assistant Whanau Leader. Originally from Manchester, passion for travel landed me in this beautiful country in 2014. Ensuring student well-being through effective pastoral care is my principal objective. I encourage students to question and connect with the natural phenomena of the world around them, through a scientific lens.
Makomako Whanau Teacher
I am currently teaching Year 8 homeroom in my first full teaching role. I am passionate about mentoring and guiding students to reach their full potential. I am also passionate about Health, PE and sports and I like to incorporate values from these areas into my teaching. I have lived in Auckland for 5 years after growing up in Australia, and I am really enjoying the multicultural aspects that Auckland has to offer.
I have had a long and happy association with AJHS as both a homeroom teacher and a relief teacher dating back to when the school opened in 2005. My background is in both teaching and tourism, having trained as a Primary School teacher specialising in the Year 7 and 8 area and also working as a tour guide for over 30 years in both New Zealand and Europe. I love to see the students of AJHS take up the incredible opportunities that are presented to them during their four years here.
I strive for all of my classes to be fun and interactive. If I am not having fun, then I know that my learners are not having fun. As a Business Academy teacher, I am lucky to engage with learners , whose creative thinking can be turned into products and services that may one day benefit multiple communities.
Kia ora, ko Helen Haine tōku ingoa. AJHS became my teaching home in 2015. I love coaching learners to achieve, find their individual passions and enjoy the journey. If I’m not in my homeroom you’ll probably find me in the Science labs, the library, backstage at our productions, engaged in collaborative learning conversations with colleagues, or in search of my next coffee. Proudly straddling the line between geek and nerd, I find joy in knowing stuff about stuff. Head of Year 7, Homeroom and Science kaiako (teacher), visiting Evaluating Lecturer of student teachers for both Massey University and AUT.
Food Technology Teacher
Teaching is my passion and hobby, so I feel very lucky to be working at AJHS. I have a Bachelor of Science majoring in Food Science, and have experience teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. My goals are to help students build their confidence and enjoy themselves while learning. I love singing, playing the piano and cooking.
Year 7 Homeroom teacher and teach maths in Year 7. This is my first year at AJHS but I have 20 years' experience in various schools. I am enthusiastic about ILE's and collaborative teaching as this leads to collaborative learning.
I have a Bsc in Biological Science and Chemistry and a strong passion for teaching science. My goal is to help students to make sense of the world around them. Acknowledging student success and encouraging students to go beyond their limits are what I love. Outside of school, I enjoy knitting, walking on the beach and playing the piano.
