I have returned to AJHS as Head of Mathematics after 5 years teaching at Wentworth College. Teaching Mathematics requires more creativity than I imagined. The need for new ways to introduce and connect ideas and to engage students, inspires me to create exciting problems and tasks at the correct level of complexity.
I would describe myself as a warm, accessible, enthusiastic and caring teacher. My goal is to help students gain confidence in their ability and to achieve the best they can. Students should know they can come to me with any problems or concerns or even to share a funny story.

AJHS, and Ruru in particular, has been my home since 2005. I am passionate about our students and ensuring we provide a buzz to their four year experience. My responsibilities around the school include HOLA Year 8 and Teacher In Charge of Buses. I also enjoy helping out at various EOTC and Arts Department activities to give our students the best of times.

I am currently teaching Year 8 homeroom in my first full teaching role. I am passionate about mentoring and guiding students to reach their full potential. I am also passionate about Health, PE and sports and I like to incorporate values from these areas into my teaching. I have lived in Auckland for 5 years after growing up in Australia, and I am really enjoying the multicultural aspects that Auckland has to offer.

Kia ora, I'm a Humanities teacher with a special interest in Geography. I have been teaching at AJHS since 2019 as a long term reliever in the Maths Faculty and as a Year 7 Homeroom Teacher. A teacher of Homeroom, P E and Health for 6 years. Playing and coaching sport is a passion and I bring many aspects of this to the classroom. My goal is to create an engaging and authentic environment where our students can enjoy learning and discover their passions.

I'm absolutely thrilled to be at Albany Junior High School in Kiwi Whanau as a Homeroom teacher, in addition to being a Maths teacher of Year 7 students.

I was a Primary School teacher for 27 years. I am now the Science technician at AJHS and love the varied nature of my busy, full-time role. I have worked in schools all my life and love being around young, curious, growing minds. I have 2 adult sons and have been involved in their many sporting ventures over the years.
I have had a long and happy association with AJHS as both a homeroom teacher and a relief teacher dating back to when the school opened in 2005. My background is in both teaching and tourism, having trained as a Primary School teacher specialising in the Year 7 and 8 area and also working as a tour guide for over 30 years in both New Zealand and Europe. I love to see the students of AJHS take up the incredible opportunities that are presented to them during their four years here.
With a degree in Biochemistry and a plan to win the Nobel Prize, a chance comment made me decide to teach instead. I trained in England and moved to this fabulous country fourteen years ago. As an experienced primary teacher I am passionate about developing independent learners. Funnily enough I also teach science.

Food Technology Teacher
Teaching is my passion and hobby, so I feel very lucky to be working at AJHS. I have a Bachelor of Science majoring in Food Science, and have experience teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. My goals are to help students build their confidence and enjoy themselves while learning. I love singing, playing the piano and cooking.
Year 7 Homeroom teacher and teach maths in Year 7. This is my first year at AJHS but I have 20 years' experience in various schools. I am enthusiastic about ILE's and collaborative teaching as this leads to collaborative learning.
With over two decades of experience across many educational roles, I'm very excited to be at AJHS. Inspired by my love of traveling and passion for developing global and cultural diversity, I've spent several years teaching overseas. During this time I have extended my knowledge and teaching skills across inclusive education (gifted and talented students), English as a Second Language (ESL), the arts, and developing core curriculum content and skills. As a HPE Teacher and TIC of Sports Academy I use my competitive sporting background to motivate students towards making positive and healthy lifestyle choices in and beyond the classroom. I row surf boats for Orewa SLSC, play football and keep fit through CrossFit and weightlifting.

I graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, after being awarded a tennis scholarship. I enjoy mountain biking, morning latte's at the beach and reading autobiographies.
I enjoy sharing my love for language and literature with my students. I have a Masters Degree in Applied Linguistics and I have taught English at secondary level for over 10 years. I believe learning should take place in a warm, friendly and supportive environment, and I strive for my classrooms to embody those values.
I have a Bsc in Biological Science and Chemistry and a strong passion for teaching science. My goal is to help students to make sense of the world around them. Internatinal Students Director, I immigrated to NZ with my family in 2001 from Korea. It was not easy to adapt a different culture and life style in a foreign country. However I was given various cultural experiences and opportunities at AJHS. I am very happy that I am able to share my experiences with our interantional students.
NZ Registered Nurse with over 30 years experience in a variety of Health settings. I have been at AJHS since 2016 and love being in the school environment and working with sudent to fulfill their potential at school.
Head of Learning Support/ESOL
Having recently joined the AJHS team I am enjoying the maturity and independence of the students in this school. I have many years' experience working with individual students who require extension and/or learning support. Am currently loving designing programmes for students for whom English is a second language.
I have worked in the Finance team at AJHS since early 2020. I enjoy working with the staff, parents and children within the AJHS family. I have two school age children that keep me very busy outside office hours.
I have a LLB and an Arts Degree with a major in Education. After a number of years working in the business field I felt it was time to do something more positive, and to turn to my earlier interest of teaching. I am thoroughly enjoying working as a Teacher Aide. I get to work with students and help them do the best they are able to, all without the abundance of planning teachers have to do, and the meetings they have to attend!
Visual Arts & Photography
I teach Art and Photography and I am in my first year teaching at AJHS. Students can derive a great deal of benefit from studying Visual Arts, and I enjoy witnessing their development through a Visual Arts course. I like to support and encourage students in their determination to acquire and improve their skills, discover their own wellspring of creative potential, and enjoy the challenge of finding meaningful ways to express themselves as individuals and as part of a community.
Specialist teacher of French for 13 years. Passionate about teaching the language and educating young learners using the AIM method (Accelerative Interactive Method). Every word has a gesture, learning through song and theatrics for beginners and more in-depth in continuant classes. I prepare students to continue French at a senior level.

Being curious by nature, I love spending time traveling overseas or adventuring within the outdoors of New Zealand. I’m a passionate photographer, sports enthusiast and can often be seen surfing a wave or two out on the west coast. Having taught both abroad and here at home, I have developed a holistic view of education. I am looking forward to educating the students on mathematics this year and working within a school that has such a great community.

My passion is seeing the youth of today in the outdoors, and I love my role as Teacher in charge of Outdoor Education. I am the schools Receptionist and have been here since 2012, I am also responsible for new enrolments. I thoroughly enjoy welcoming our new families and ensuring students feel at ease, plus continued relationships with our current parents. The best part of my job however, is that every day is different, working with staff that are just so good at what they do and the interactions I have with our students makes my day.

Interests include running a charity for underprivileged in Rwanda, travel, and predator free NZ. I'm married to Ian and have four sons.
I teach Science and Forensics at AJHS. I worked in the mental health sector for many years before working for the Department of Corrections. My curriculum specialities are Psychology and Biology; I am privately pursuing my personal interest in the neurobiology and philosophy of consciousness plus machine intelligence (A.I.).
I joined AJHS as a year 7 Homeroom teacher in 2021. My passion in the classroom is literacy and I love getting to share this with my students. I try to make learning fun for my students, and enjoy getting to learn new things alongside them. Outside the classroom I like to spend time outdoors keeping active.

Passionate about enabling our akonga to reach their potential, in whatever area that may be, as well as mentoring and nurturing them through the rollercoaster of life.
Teacher of Fabric Tech at AJHS since 2007. My degree is a BA in Fabric Technology, majoring in costume design which is a continuing passion of mine. I believe my job is to help unlock the creativity and problem solving skills of all learners and I enjoy seeing where that takes them.
I have been at AJHS since 2009 in the role of Sports Coordinator. I have a passion for sport, especially youth being involved in sport. I am committed to getting as many people involved in sport as possible, not only for the physical but also the mental and emotional benefits. In my younger years I competed at a high level in aerobics and rhythmic gymnastics as well as working as a fitness trainer and dance teacher. Head of Lanaguages, TIC of Japanese. 24 years' experience as a secondary teacher of Japanese and English. I am passionate about empowering students to think critically by motivating them to see patterns in the world around them and create a love of learning. Making connections with students and being an authentic person with a good sense of humour is important to me.
Have joined the Learning Support Team this year from Primary School level. I have supported students from years 0-6 since 2007 and enjoy the one on one or small group learning sessions involving reading, maths and literacy. Love it when students light up when they've "got it". My 3 daughters all attended AJHS and I now get why they had so much fun.

Technology Support Technician. Married with two children who both came to AJHS. I immigrated in 2005 from England as we loved what NZ had to offer. I have a passion for engaging children in the new and interesting things technology offers. I am a qualified ice skating coach ( BITA) and spent 19 years working in a bank to become a manager gaining FPC & Ce MAP. I love where my new career is taking me.
I teach because I'm passionate about empowering children to know their strengths and own their learning journeys. My favourite place to breath deeply is the ocean, and I'm rediscovering a love for swimming later in life. I am lucky enough to have 3 amazing children who are 16, 14 and 9; they inspire me and keep me on my toes every day. I started teaching at AJHS in 2022 and I am a Year 7 Homeroom and Science Teacher. Senior Guidance Counsellor: My passion is to assist young people of all ages and ethnicities to be able to live in their optimum levels of well-being. I believe this is possible by using customised counselling approaches that suit the personal and cultural needs of the individual. I am experienced with helping people find ways to develop and utilise their strengths when they are struggling and feeling overwhelmed with their personal circumstances.
International Student Homestay Manager
International Homestay Coordinator, I also help with school bookings and accounts for the Business Manager. I started at AJHS in 2015 as a Learning Support Assistant and enjoy working with the children and staff at AJHS. I'm a mum of two, and both children have attended AJHS and loved their time here.
Property Maintenance Assistant. I have behind me a forty year banking career starting at the bottom as a bills of exchange clerk, progressing through administration, accounting, resources management to consumer credit management of a cluster of 23 large branches. Woodwork, metalwork and home and vehicle maintenance have been a part of my life since pre school days.
Mathematics and Whanau teacher. I see myself as an educator wanting to cultivate a positive attitude toward learning (specifically Maths) in children. Apart from maths, I am also passionate about sports (especially netball) and using the skills learnt on the sports field to teach life lessons in the class.
I thoroughly enjoy being part of the Library Team at AJHS, firstly as a volunteer and now as a staff member. I have two children who have attended this school. An avid reader myself, I am always keen to encourage others. I have had a long term involvement with education of young children including several years as a teacher-aid, which prompted me to finally complete my BA degree and go on to a PGradDip in Education Psychology.

In 2002, my husband, two children moved to New Zealand. I thoroughly enjoy the kiwi lifestyle, travelling to new destinations and spending time with my four grandchildren.

I enjoy making sure our marketing and communications are professional and meaningful. AJHS has an incredibly dedicated team of teachers and a very talented student body, so my role of bring information to life is not hard, with the passion and skills we have around us.

Mathematics and Whanau teacher. Originally from South Africa and lived in New Zealand since 2011. I relate well to all students and have high expectations in the classroom. I am very passionate about Mathematics.
I am the teacher in charge of Visual Art at AJHS. I have taught as an Art Specialist across all years from Year 0-10. I love the vibrant creativity of the art room each day and seeing my students explore their curiosity and nurture their creative potential on their journey as artists.
Am a member of the learning support team. My passion is to help students achieve and enjoy school. Working one on one or in small groups helps the student understand and they become more confident in their abilities. Have worked at AJHS for over 10 years.
Kaiako (teacher) of year 7 homeroom and whānau class. I am a life-long learner, Māori-Pasifika wife, and mother of 4 sons. We have returned to Tamaki Makaurau Auckland after time in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, where I was a teacher aide and kaiako in the bilingual space. I enjoy sports, sci-fi/fantasy, Kapa Haka, and I am passionate about hauora health and wellbeing. It is a privilege to walk alongside tamariki and rangatahi at AJHS as they grow into our citizens of the future.
Teacher, wife, mother of two, and all-round awesome Canadian! My passion is to encourage students to reach their unique potential, challenging them whilst supporting them to love learning. I love those lightbulb moments! I spend my time outdoors, walking, reading, travelling and having fun with my family.
I am the business manager at Albany Junior High School since 2017. I am father of two sons. I have over 15 years of financial controlling, operational management and property management experiences. I have been dealing with muti- government agencies (CYFS, DOC, MOE, MOH etc.).
Assistant Sports Coordinator
A recent AUT graduate with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation, I'm passionate about youth coaching and player and coach development. I have a particular interest in netball and athletics but am a huge advocate for trying out as many sports as possible. I strongly believe in the values and principles sport teaches us, and hope to encourage AJHS students to be active and pursue any and all sporting endeavours.
A qualified, experienced school librarian. An avid reader of Children + Young Adult literature, I love to share my passion with our students. I have been at AJHS since its opening in 2005 and instrumental in the ongoing development of its Library.
I have worked with the fabulous admin team for a number of years in the student accounts office dealing with the lovely parents and student payments. I have 3 kids and moved to NZ from the UK 13 years ago.
Head of Learning(English)
With nearly 30 years teaching experience in South Africa, Ireland and New Zealand, I am a specialist teacher of English, Media and Film Studies. Head of the Learning Areas English and ESOL, my qualifications include a BA, HDipEd, MEd in Literacy and Numeracy Development as well as a TEFL Dip.
As a qualified bilingual translator in Chinese and English (NAATI & NZSTI), I have been working as an ESOL teacher aide in AJHS for 4 years since 2017 after working several years in a top international school back in China. I find my passion is in helping students to break language barriers. Being friendly and patient, I am pleased to support our international students and ESOL students to build confidence both in academic study and social life.
International Student Administrator
I immigrated to New Zealand from China in 2010. I enjoy working with very supportive staff and lovely children at AJHS. I love working with international students who need extra help and I feel relieved when I see their progress. I'm a mother of two boys. I enjoy spending time with friends and family.
Began teaching in 2015 in South Korea and joined AJHS in 2019. I embrace diversity within our communities and value the contribution students and whanau bring to our schools and classrooms. I am passionate about student engagement, resilience, and achievement.
I am a qualified teacher in both Korea and New Zealand. I have been teaching since 2003 and have started working at AJHS since 2018. My passionate areas of teaching are Mathematics and Year 7 Homeroom. I am a true believer of a growth mindset and I love teaching!
