We are very excited to introduce you to our newest member of staff, Eddie the therapy dog!

Eddie is a Mobility Dogs therapy dog, working alongside Sophie, one of our School Counsellors. His role is to support Sophie’s work with students and contribute to a calm, positive and welcoming environment.

As Eddie settles in, his role will develop gradually and may include:

• supporting students during counselling and wellbeing sessions

• providing a calm presence for students who may be anxious, overwhelmed or dysregulated

• helping build connection and engagement with students who may find it difficult to communicate or open up

• providing appropriate opportunities for positive interaction and connection

• supporting selected wellbeing activities within the school

Talking to your children about Eddie

Students will naturally be curious. A simple explanation is:

“Eddie is a Therapy Dog and he works with Sophie, one of the School Counsellors. He is at AJHS to work with students. You may see him around school, but that doesn’t always mean he is available for pats or attention. Sophie will let you know when it’s okay to interact with him.”
