Earlier this month the Year 10 Sports Academy class attended the annual Academy Beach Camp. This was held at Orewa Beach holiday Park and Orewa Surf Lifesaving Club.
Academy students had the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a Surf Lifeguard through learning skills such as tube rescue, run, swim, run, surf survival, beach flags and more. This is linked to theoretical concepts learnt in the classroom.
Students also walked the Orewa estuary, went wharf jumping, completed a tough beach workout and participated in a scavenger hunt completing challenges around Orewa Beach.
A big thank you to Nikki Jones, Lucy Wikaire and Nicola Kaiwai for running the Beach Camp. Congratulations to Cole Harrison and Phoebe Cowie for winning the Sports Academy ‘Nailed It’ trophy.
