Last week a team of 36 students and 4 staff attended Sports Camp at Totara Springs in Matamata.

Sports Camp is a week-long sports event where 10 teams from schools from the Auckland and Waikato region compete against each other in sports and activities over 5 days.

The schools that we faced were Avondale Intermediate, Fairfield Intermediate, Henderson Intermediate Falcons, Henderson Intermediate Magpies, Kelston Intermediate, Maeroa Intermediate, Murrays Bay Intermediate Dolphins, Murrays Bay Intermediate Sharks and Rangeview Intermediate.

Students selected in the AJHS team trialled and then had to train twice weekly leading up to the camp.

There were 36 different sports and activities that were competed in across the week, and all teams were required to perform a cheer piece on the last night of camp. Here’s our awesome cheer piece!

The AJHS team had a fantastic week with all students leading by example with great effort, pride, sportsmanship and making new friends and memories that will last a lifetime. We came home as champions of the Mixed Soccer, Cross Country, Girls Indoor Hockey and Chess and we were runners up in the Boys Indoor Hockey and Draughts.

And to top if off, we finished a very proud 3rd= in the Cheer piece.
