Last Thursday our Year 7 Speech Finals took place in the gym, featuring an impressive display of talent, courage, and creativity. The event brought together two finalists from each of our whanau, delivering either formal speeches or spoken word poems on a variety of thought-provoking topics.
This year’s speeches tackled themes such as the power of a growth mindset, the benefits of stage fright, and a strong case for why teachers should be paid more. The students captivated the audience with their passion and persuasive arguments, making it a memorable afternoon for all.
Taking home the top honours was Saby Irrena with her dynamic speech titled “Drama” securing first place. In second place, Niamh Wall delivered a compelling talk on “Horse Racing,” while Damian Coles claimed third place with his engaging speech on “Video Games.”
A special thank you to our panel of judges, Sarah Guise and Shelley Brockelsby, as well as Albany Senior High students Bob and Jane, who had their work cut out for them selecting the winners from such a talented group.
Congratulations to all the finalists for their hard work and bravery in presenting their speeches. Your efforts are a testament to the power of self-expression and the importance of sharing your voice with the world.
