Week 11 of term 1 saw a lot of events in the Arts Faculty
The first Drama Showcase of the year was held in April in the Performing Arts Centre. The showcase is an opportunity for students from the Year 9 and 10 drama classes to perform what they’ve been working on to family and friends.
Year 9 students performed scripted work that they had been practising and rehearsing. We had performances such as ‘Junk Food’, ‘Home Sweet Home’, ‘Are Your Dog Treats Vegan?’, and ‘I think we need to have a meeting’.
Year 10s were tasked with adapting one of Shakespeare’s many plays, producing a script, and adding their own twist. We heard adaptations of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Comedy of Errors’.
The showcase is something that Drama students can work up to. Students perform their pieces in front of an audience, which gives them some practical experience in developing skills such as keeping on performing even if you make a mistake.
Pulling off a Drama Showcase not only involves rehearsing from the students for the event, but also pulling together costumes, setting up and running lights and sound, and many other people to direct students on the night.
A big ‘well done and thank you’ to the production whānau team who ran all the lighting, sound and stage management for the performance.
