International Fees & Homestay Information

Curious about hosting an international student?

If you would like to learn about other cultures, have a spare room, and would like to welcome an international student into your family and home, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for host families to add to our database and welcome to the AJHS homestay community. You may want to host a student long-term (1 year) or short-term (4 weeks to 1 term). You will be supported by the International Department and will receive a $380 per week homestay fee.

Administration Fee (non-refundable)

2026: NZ $2,000 (15% GST included)
  • School Administration
  • School ID Card
  • School Yearbook
  • Student Organizer Book
  • Subject Fee (no textbook or stationery included)
  • Uniform (2 shirts, 1 shorts, 1 PE top and shorts, 1 Jacket or Hoodie)

Government Levy

$440.20

A Year Tuition Fees (payable annually in advance)

  • 2026: NZ $20,000

Please Note:

  • International Students are not asked to pay school donations
  • Students wanting to be considered for the Enrichment Classes must enroll before October of the calendar year and complete the entry tests
  • Any student whose enrolment is not completed at the end of the one-month conditional period will not be guaranteed placement

Additional Compulsory Costs

These compulsory costs vary according to the year level of the student.
  • Medical and travel insurance depending on the policy selected
  • Yearly school camp fee
  • Subject stationery
  • School subject trips and field trips (vary)
  • Involvement in extra-curricular activities (all user-pays)
  • Personal photocopying (black and white)
  • Travel to, from, and within New Zealand

Non-Compulsory Costs

  • Overseas trips
  • Music lessons
  • Music instrument hire
  • Sports registration fees
  • Homestay accommodation (This only applies to those staying in homestay accommodation. The weekly fee includes a $20 contribution that supports the homestay programme. This helps cover administration placement support, home visits, translation services (if needed), emergency transport and resources for the host families.). NZ $420 per week
  • Homestay placement fee (one-off payment yearly) of NZ $450 (15% GST included)
  • Designated caregiver application fee (NZ $450 per year)
  • Airport meeting (to be discussed)

It is understood that all children will participate fully in all aspects of Albany Junior High School life.
